Ray Eames and California’s DESIGNING WOMEN

August 15, 2012 by: Daniel Ostroff

Ray Eames is one of 43 designers featured in this exciting new Museum of California Design exhibition at The Autry National Center in Los Angeles.

We had a chance to preview the show last week, and highly recommend it. You’ll not only see many great designs, you’ll learn about the rich contribution made by women in this most productive state.

Thanks to ESOTERIC SURVEY for that photo of the Ray Eames wall, which includes a rare Ray Eames splint sculpture, alongside a real Eames leg splint, several Ray Eames Arts & Architecture covers, and her great textile designs.

You can see more photos of the exhibition at the Esoteric Blog website, here

L.A. Art Week review

Much great work, and many great designers whose work is seldom recognized, are given their due in this show. Curator Bill Stern shines a light on the creators behind some remarkable works.

We conclude with a photo (by Tanya Laden of the L.A. Weekly) of some of the real “designing women” who attended the opening, alongside curator Bill Stern. Deborah Sussman began her career working at the Eames Office.

The Eames Office has published and offers for sale a TEXTILE HOUSE OF CARDS featuring some of the Ray Eames textile designs which are on view at this exhibition.
