This ottoman was purchased en suite with this lounge chair.
It was manufactured in 1979, and this is how it looks in 2012.
This example was featured in the Time Line in the Collecting Eames Getty Pacific Standard Time Exhibition.
The base and post were produced by industrial processes and machines. The sewing of the leather requires tremendous craftsmanship and skill. This chair exemplifies the Eames idea that craftsmanship still has a place in products that are made with industrial advantages. Except for the arms, the aluminum is left un-coated; because of this detail the customer can choose to accept the natural patina developed by aluminum overtime, or, can choose to give it a high polish. The leather, a quality standard offered by Herman Miller, was chosen for its durability.
