Banner Metals of Compton, CA manufactured the wire shels and bases for the Herman Miller Furniture Company. The wire chairs were marketed by Herman Miller from 1951 to 1967. We can date this example to 1957 because the two piece pad is upholstered on top and bottom. Prior to 1957 fabric and naugahyde pads, both the two piece, like this example and the one piece pads, were furnished with a jute backing.
Here you can see a close-up of the underside of the pad.
Note the details in this impeccable vintage model;
copies of the cats cradle base do not have the same features as this,
the welding of the connections on an authentic Eames chair
bases is distinctive.
