FRANKLIN & JEFFERSON POSTER

1975
American Revolution Bicentennial Administration

Original poster designed by the Eames Office for the 1975 inaugural exhibition of THE WORLD OF FRANKLIN AND JEFFERSON, in Paris.

"The World of Franklin and Jefferson was an exhibition produced for the American Revolution Bicentennial Administration as part of the bicentennial celebrations. During 1975 the exhibition toured Europe . . . The inaugural installation of the exhibition opened in the Grand Palais (Louvre) in Paris on January 11, 1975. The show then traveled to the National Museum of Poland, Warsaw, and the British Museum, London." From the book, EAMES DESIGN, please click on that quote to find a link to the book.

Le Monde, the leading newspaper in Paris, reviewed the show "above the fold" and here is an excerpt from that review:

"This is a reconstruction of 125 crucial years in the history of liberty. It is literally an exemplary exhibition, not only for its richness and groupings of its contents, but also by its truly revolutionary presentation…The result is a feast. Nothing could be more fun than this sparkling collection. A living entity for those who do not come for a history lesson but more for impressions. Charles Eames has recreated the atmosphere of an era, the moral and social climate of the birth of a nation, forever marked by the principles on which it was founded."
